Flooring project wins critical acclaim for aesthetics, durability.
CinemaxX group theaters occupy a special place in the hearts and minds of northern European filmgoers. The chain of multiplex cinemas has been a pioneer in technical innovation and futuristic architectural designs. The group operates 34 multiplex centers in Germany and Denmark with 295 screens and 78,000 seats.
So, when the chain wanted to modernize its location in Bielefeld, it wanted a completely new look to complement its sophisticated audio and video systems, oversized screens and modern, comfortable armchairs.
“My aim was to achieve a formal reduction of the interior, so to speak, as an attractive medium for what is taking place,” says Belinda Müll, interior designer at Hamburg-based Studio Elbglanz. “The bright, clear and inspiring ambience in the foyer and the areas outside the film theatres underlines the innovation leadership of Germany’s best-known cinema chain.”
The designer wanted the floor covering in the new multiplex cinema to accent the unusual design concept and discreetly put the interior into the limelight. Müll chose premium rubber floor coverings from nora, specifically, noraplan® uni in elegant grey and lime.
And while design was a critical factor in the decision, the floor’s low maintenance requirements and stain resistance were also important. The constant stream of moviegoers brings in dirt as well as dampness from the elements. Spilled liquids and greasy food can be wiped up without leaving a stain. And, in contrast to other flooring choices, nora® rubber flooring does not require a coating, saving maintenance time and expense. “The uncomplicated cleaning was a decisive factor in choosing the floor covering,” adds Müll.
When added to the noise reduction, walking comfort, environmental impact and low emissions, the noraplan uni installation won rave reviews all around. For more on the blockbuster combination of benefits, see the full project profile.
