With time and budget on the line, nora® flooring keeps Reading Hospital expansion on track.

Reading Hospital, in West Reading, PA, recently opened a $354 million, 476,000-square-foot addition. Seventh Street Tower, as the new nine-story addition is called, welcomes patients and visitors to a facility that features privacy, flexibility and the latest technology available to healthcare professionals and their patients. The goal of the expansion was to replace and relocate operating rooms spread across four buildings and provide 150 new patient rooms. The installation of noraplan® eco with nora® nTx throughout most of the facility helped the hospital reach this goal on schedule.

nora nTx is a pre-applied, solvent-free adhesive backing that minimizes prep work and eliminates drying protocols, making the surface ready for immediate use. The flooring is also resistant to high moisture vapor emissions and extensive pH limits, which eliminates the need for moisture testing and remediation before installation. With fewer steps and no wait time required, installation time was reduced, saving nearly two months in the construction schedule.

Post-construction, noraplan eco with nora nTx continues to impress those who work in and manage the facility. “It’s a lower maintenance product, requiring less labor and materials. It offers as much as 20 to 30 percent in labor savings related to the care and maintenance of the floor,” says Tim Cole, the hospital’s director of environmental services. The simplified maintenance also allows hospital staff to turn over patient rooms more quickly.

The flooring’s resilient surface offers a host of safety benefits to staff and patients. The dense surface inhibits growth of bacteria and other harmful organisms and resists chemical staining. And the nursing staff tires less easily during long shifts, owing to the resilient underfoot comfort.

The choice of noraplan eco with nora nTx delivered significant time and cost savings in completing the expansion. But it’s also paying off in everyday use, as hospital staff and managers appreciate the simple maintenance and safety benefits the flooring delivers daily.
