Think of it as a roadmap to financial and operational success: A carefully developed comprehensive energy master plan (CEMP) can assist you with future maintenance decisions and keep you from avoiding costly surprises. Research and management buy-in. Before undertaking system upgrades, develop a high-level cost-benefit analysis, and get backing from senior management.
Data is king. Performing a thorough analysis of your facility condition and energy audit paves the way for developing projections, energy reduction goals and improvement costs. It also helps you convince senior management.
Identify mandated improvements and opportunities. Stay on top of regulatory requirements to avoid significant fines, and identify and calculate maintenance-related opportunities.
“Show me the money.” States, municipalities and the federal government have grants, incentives and tax breaks for energy improvements. Enlist in a professional engineer to help you gather data for funding or grant applications.
LEED the way. As you go through the CEMP process, address whether your facility will apply for LEED or other certification. Some projects require LEED certification.
